Periodontal disease causes the jaw bone around teeth to break down to the point that teeth become loose and eventually fall out. Hence the name “jaw bone disease”. Even though abscesses occur at times, most often there is no pain and bleeding gums may be the only sign. There is treatment but prevention is far easier than treatment.
